Gassiot on Fabric (GOF) was founded in 1984 by Gale Gassiot. The initial product line consisted of scarves and sarongs. Within a year, GOF was represented in showrooms and apparel markets in Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, and Miami. By 1985 a fourteen-piece garment line was exhibited quarterly in each showroom and sales reps sold the products to high-end boutiques, department stores, and galleries. In 1986 couture designers began to order evening gown and dress yardage for their own garment lines. In 1987 Gale began to sell directly to the public through her studio and through recurring semiannual trunk shows in the homes of select clientele. In 1987 upscale interior design firms and furniture stores began purchasing custom yardage for home interiors. Please see the interior design link for more information on interior design applications.
by 1988 Gale was being asked to present fashion shows for various organizations having annual fund raising events throughout Texas, including women's groups, business groups, and art leagues. In addition, Gale produced and donated costumes four consecutive years to the Fantasy Gala, annual charity event for the Gulf Coast Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers where Neiman Marcos produced the fashion shows and Gale's costumes won recognition.
Gale sold Gassiot on Fabric's garment division in 1998 and the interior design division in 2000.

Gassiot on Fabric Garment Line
The Gassiot on Fabric garment line was a custom line of hand-painted silk yardage. Clients tried on samples to customize their own garment collection by choosing neckline, sleeve type, length, hemline, pant type, jacket type, dress type, etc. Then the fabric designs were chosen so the pieces coordinated. Each season clients added to their existing garment collection.
Custom Choices
Examples of some of the custom choices available are shown in the line sheet.
