This group of illustrations are created by Gale Gassiot for Written in Water: A Memoir of Love, Death, and Mystery, a book written by Carol Flake-Chapman, and illustrated by Gale Gassiot.
The chacmool is a Mayan god positioned at the apex of the temple. Human hearts are sacrificed in the lap of the Chacmool.
Gale's glass mosaics are custom ordered by interior designers and architects. Each piece of art is custom-designed by the artist to coordinate with the color and style of the space. Gale has over twenty years of experience customizing textiles for interior designers. Cut glass is carefully shaped and sanded to produce the colorful designs that mimicking elements in nature. The mosaic line includes products such as lighted corner niches, windows, skylights, compass roses, and back splashes. LED lighting reflects subtlety on metallic accents giving life to the objects. Mosaics are custom-designed as one unit to be installed into the structure during construction or renovation. Delivery time is 8-12 weeks.

Mosaic niches are custom designed for each space. The concave glass niches have subtle metallic accents and are lit with LED lighting wired to the wall switch.
A mock up sketch is produced for approval of the design prior to the order being placed. Once approved, production begins and takes 10-12 weeks.

Gale first began painting with watercolor and gouache in 1979. At this time she worked as an Austin Fire Fighter where she spent evenings painting watercolors in the kitchen of the firehouse. Within a few years she was having solo exhibitions, teaching art, coordinating traveling workshops, and filling commissioned orders. In 1985 she left the Austin Fire Department to pursue her career in art.
